Counter Terror Advice Circulated To Wrexham Businesses

Wrexham Council are circulating information and advice from the Regional Emergency Planning Service in North Wales to local businesses this afternoon following the terror attack in Manchester, and subsequent raising of the UK threat level to critical.

The aim of the memo is described as helping businesses to reduce the potential risk of any threat towards customers in the weeks ahead whilst the UK remains at the critical threat level.

The document contains a summary of the recent attack, with areas highlighted concerning congregations of large numbers of people be it at venues or office blocks.

Various tactical options are offered as suggestions, with the focus on higher profile and more thorough security taking place as has been common advice across the UK.

Practical checks are also suggested, including checking that first aid points are fully stocked, staff are aware of where key equipment is, plus a check that CCTV systems are operational.

The Centre for the Protection of the National Infrastructure (CPNI) and/or National Counter Terrorism Security Office (NaCTSO) has detailed protective security advice for businesses, communities and the public, this is available from their websites. The advice relates to:

  • Search planning
  • Evacuation, invacuation and lockdown
  • Preparedness, first aid kits and crisis incident kits
  • CCTV
  • Security culture
  • Reporting suspicious transactions around precursor materials that can be used in bomb making
  • Guidance for the public, businesses and laboratories on using, storing and selling explosives precursors and poisons
  • Good practice for security guards and those involved in delivery of security
  • The effects of blast and cordon distance

The information release ends by advising the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious behaviour or activity to the Anti-Terrorism Hotline on 0800 789 321 or 101, and that in an emergency the public should always call 999 – asking businesses “Please reinforce these telephone numbers to your workforce.”
