A local councillor has called for gypsy and traveller site plans for Brymbo to be ditched amid concerns of road safety.

The land, at the former Coedyfelin Road sewerage treatment works, had been allocated for development in the Local Development Plan (LDP).

Despite strong objections from the local community, the Planning Inspectorate found that the plan was “sound“, meaning the land allocated for redevelopment could be used.

However after the LDP was thrown out by members of the council earlier this summer, Brymbo Cllr Paul Rogers is now calling on the ruling executive board to ditch plans for a gypsy and traveller site in the village.

Cllr Rogers said that he has been contacted by residents after “a number of road traffic accidents” in the vicinity the former of the site.

Cllr Rogers said: “Over recent weeks I have been contacted by many concerned residents about the ongoing accidents on the stretch of road which fronts the proposed gypsy and traveller site.”

“I have received photographs of the damage caused to cars as well as private property and it is a concern.

“Residents are worried that the number of accidents could become more frequent if this land were to be developed.

“There are many reasons why this particular site is unsuitable for development however I voted against the Local Development Plan as for me the safety of local residents and road users is a priority.

“A majority of councillors voted to against the proposed LDP and it is now time to ditch this proposed site”
