A new pilot scheme has been launched to help put a stop to dog fouling in Borras.

Over the weekend several dog bag dispensers were installed on lampposts across several dog fouling hotspots across Borras.

It is hoped that residents in need of a dog bag to clean up after their dogs can now take one free of charge.

The scheme has been launched by local councillor for Borras Park Cllr Debbie Wallice in a bid to tackle the ongoing issue of dog fouling in the area.

It is hoped that if the initiative works, more dispenser bags will be purchased and introduced at more locations across the Borras area.

Cllr Wallice said: “Dog fouling has been an issue in Borras for far too long. Over the past few months, I’ve put together several different ways in which as a community we can attempt to prevent dog fouling on our streets.”

She continued, “The scheme itself allows residents who are in need of a dog bag to take one free of charge, meaning there’s no excuse to not pick up after your dog. This is only the first phase, if this scheme works I will happily work with other councillors to role this out across other areas.

“Evidently the next big step is to make sure there is a sufficient number of bins, this is something I’ll be looking into over the next few weeks.”
