Residents are being asked to “take extra care as to how they park” to help ensure that all bins and recyclables are emptied on time, with the Council saying CCTV is also being used to check bins are out on time against those who may claim missed collections.

Wrexham Council has issued the message after a number of incidences involving vehicle access for bin wagons on collection days.

This has meant in some cases that the bins have not been emptied.

The local authority has now released a series of pictures highlighting the issue and is calling on residents to “take extra care when parking your vehicles” and to “look at your street to check there’s enough room for our large vehicles to safely perform their duties”.

Cllr David A Bithell, Lead Member for Environment and Transport, said, “We try our best not to let our residents down, but there are some occasions when our vehicles can’t get to where they need to be, which inevitably leads to missed collections and leaves some people disappointed.

“Therefore, we’re asking our residents to take extra care as to how they park when it’s their collection day, so that these types of situations can be avoided. We collect from 64,000 households each week.”

A statement issued by Wrexham Council, adds: “You can make it easier for our crews by taking these simple steps.

“If you see a neighbour’s vehicle that could prevent us from accessing your street, please pass the message on to them too…the more people that realise this, the less chance that you’ll all be disappointed on your collection day.

In a warning that appears to be targeted at spurious claims of missed collections, the council noted for what we think is the first time, “All our vehicles are fitted with in-cab technology – including CCTV – that allows the crews to record any instances where bins have not been presented before 07:30am, or if there are access issues, which prevent our crews from making the collection.

“Missed bins can be reported by calling 01978 298989 or online here. Report before 3pm and they’ll be collected within three working day if WCBC are at fault.

“Missed collections where there’s no fault to the council will be collected on your next scheduled collection day as per your calendar.”
