Community Clean Up Day Planned For Wrexham Town Centre
A team of volunteers are to take to the streets tomorrow morning to take part in the latest town centre clean up.
This will be the fourth Town Centre Clean Up event to have taken place since they were launched by the Town Centre Forum last Spring.
The events bring together volunteers from the Town Centre Forum, the local community, some Councillors, local CO-OP stores, Gateway Church and is supported by Wrexham County Borough Council and Keep Wales Tidy as well as large multi-nationals like Greggs and McDonalds.
Previous events have seen volunteers tackle Lord Street, Regent Street and Hope Street.
While the events have been successful, some have asked if it should be the council carrying out the work and not a team of local volunteers.
Local Conservative campaigner Andrew Atkinson who helps organise the events with Brynyffynnon Cllr Phil Wynn said: “Many people understandably question whether or not we should have to do this as volunteers but we are a group of people proud of our town working to improve it and we want action.”
“We work with the Council and other groups and have to target many areas that are not Council responsibility like vacant shop fronts neglected by absentee landlords.”
The Group will be meeting at 8:30am this Sunday 26th June outside Emz Cakes on Chester Street, near the Peoples Market entrance.
Mr Atkinson continued: “Gateway Church deserve special recognition for what they do to assist us in the town. Once again they have changed their church service time to the late afternoon so that they can bring the whole church along to help! It’s amazing and a big help.”
