A coffee morning to mark White Ribbon Day will take place in Ty Pawb this week.

Between 10am and 12pm on Friday 24 November there will light refreshments, entertainment, live music and stalls to highlight domestic abuse and sexual violence support services.

Over two million people in the UK suffer some from of domestic abuse each year, 1.7 million female victims and just under 700,000 male victims.

There are also 130,000 children living in homes with high-risk domestic abuse across the UK. ‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌

Domestic abuse can take many forms, physical, psychological, financial, emotional or sexual.

Anyone who is being forced to change their behaviour because of fear of their partner or family member’s reaction is being abused.

Friday’s event is supported by North Wales Police, BAWSO, who provides support to black minority ethnic communities and individuals in Wales affected by abuse, violence and exploitation, Stepping Stones, Community Catalysts, Hafan Cymru RASASC, the Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Centre, DASU, the Domestic Abuse Safety Unit and Flying Start.

It will be opened by Councillor Beverley Parry-Jones who will be joined by North Wales Police, RASASC, BAWSO, Stepping Stones, DASU, etc.

Community artist Natasha Borton (who is a survivor herself) will also be providing entertainment.

The theme of this year’s White Ribbon Day, on Saturday 25 November, encourages men and boys to #ChangeTheStory so women and girls can live without the fear of violence.

The campaign is urging for male allyship to help stop violence against women.

Anthea Sully, Chief Executive of White Ribbon UK, said: “The reality is violence experienced by women is mostly perpetrated by men.

“We know that it’s not all men, but all men can #ChangeTheStory and challenge harmful attitudes and behaviours that perpetuate sexism and misogyny.”

“White Ribbon UK works with men, in their communities and places of work, to understand what constitutes as violence and know how to appropriately respond and challenge it.

“Ending violence against women starts when we #ChangeTheStory and we need men leading this change with their family, friends and colleagues so that women may live their lives free from the fear of violence.”
