“Close-knit” community project delivers handmade blankets to Wrexham care home

A “close-knit” community project has delivered handmade blankets to a Wrexham care home.

At the the start of the year Gwersyllt library group goers, along with local residents, started making knitted squares that were then sewn together to make colourful blankets.

Groups involved in the project are the Gwersyllt Library Knit and Natter Group, the Adult Book Club, the Gwersyllt Resource Luncheon Club and over 60’s group.

Although the project is currently on hold, a number of the blankets were made before the first lockdown – with many members have
continued knitting.

Over the last few months squares have continued to arrive at Gwersyllt library with residents dropping off the knitted squares whilst picking up or exchanging books using our click and collect service.

Gwersyllt librarians Lyn Edwards and Sue Melacrinis said that they had been overwhelmed by the community generosity and spirit.

This week Hollybank Care Home manager Sarah Evans gratefully received a delivery of the knitted blankets on behalf of the care home residents, and was delighted with the donation.

Commenting on the project, Cllr John Pritchard, Lead Member Youth Services and Anti-Poverty, said: “Thank you to everyone that gave their time and got involved”
