Clock is Ticking on New Dog Microchipping Law
Wrexham residents are being reminded that in less than a month it will be compulsory for dogs in Wales to be microchipped.
From 6th April, it will be a legal requirement for all dogs over eight weeks old in Wales to be microchipped and have their owners’ details registered on an approved database.
Wrexham AM Lesley Griffiths is a long-time supporter of the Welsh Government legislation which aims to give peace of mind to dog owners and help promote responsible ownership.
Ms Griffiths said: “With the 6th April deadline fast approaching, it is important people in Wrexham are aware of the legislative changes, making it a legal requirement for dogs in Wales to be microchipped.”
“Animal welfare is a priority for the Welsh Government. Compulsory microchipping not only provides the best form of identification, but also helps promote responsible dog ownership and tackle animal cruelty.”
Some animal charities have been offering free microchipping services to make sure owners and their pets are ready for the change in the law. For more information about microchipping, pet owners should speak to their vet.
