Christmas Challenge to Help Fund Transformation of Wrexham Quarry Into Nature Reserve
A Christmas Challenge to help kick-start the transformation of a disused Wrexham quarry into a spectacular nature reserve has begun.
The challenge, which has been launched by the North Wales Wildlife Trust today, seeks help to fund the transformation of Minera Quarry into a spectacular nature reserve and community wildlife asset.
Tarmac and North Wales Wildlife Trust are continuing the process of transferring Minera Quarry, near Wrexham, from private hands into a wildlife-rich public amenity. However, the Wildlife Trust are looking for support from the public in order to kick-start the transformation.
The Wildlife Trust have registered a project to enhance Minera Quarry for people and wildlife with the Christmas Challenge: the UK’s biggest online match funding campaign.
In total the Trust is seeking £12,500 in public donations to be doubled by our generous match funders – a total of £25,000 to change Minera Quarry for the better, for ever.
Simon Mills, Trustee, North Wales Wildlife Trust, said: “The Christmas Challenge will be fantastic for both North Wales Wildlife Trust and the North East Wales community. Minera Quarry is a unique site with many diverse habitats which needs to be acquired as an outstanding community and wildlife resource. We would be truly grateful for any donations.”
Graeme Cotterill, Fundraising Director, North Wales Wildlife Trust, added: “This is a wonderful opportunity for the Wildlife Trust to partner with local communities and the wider public and create an amazing place – home to peregrine falcon, raven, bats and countless orchids for everyone to enjoy. Please help us make a massive step forward for wildlife at Minera Quarry.”
Supporters of the project are urged to visit the North Wales Wildlife Trust website between Tuesday 29th November (#GivingTuesday) until midday on Friday 2nd December 2016.
Donations will help prevent the site’s special grassland flowers from being engulfed by thick scrub and lost for good.
