Chance to Climb on Board The North Wales Miners’ Bus And Explore Local History Tomorrow

A unique insight into local mining history will be on display tomorrow when the North Wales Miners’ Bus arrives in town.

Passengers will be able to climb on board the bus, which will on the Wrexham Museum forecourt from 10:30am on Thursday 23rd February, to find out more about Wrexham’s mining heritage and enjoy the great collection of mining artefacts brought together by the members of the North Wales Miners’ Association Trust.

Tony Jones, a leading authority on the history of the mining lamp, will be on hand in the museum café (10:30am – midday and 1pm – 2:30pm) to identify mining lamps brought in by members of the public, as well as to showcase some of the lamps in his own collection and those on display in the café.

The museum’s Young Volunteers will be in the main gallery with a coal mining themed handling collection, for those who like to pick up objects and touch them. The trolley of mining delights will be available from 10:30am – midday and 1pm – 2:30pm.

There will be a free guided tour of the exhibition, The Last One Standing: The Tale of Bersham Colliery, at 11:30am and 2pm

All activities are free however donations to support the work of the museum welcome.

Cllr Hugh Jones, Lead Member for Communities and Partnerships, said: “I hope everyone with an interest in the mining history of Wrexham takes advantage of the opportunity to visit this exhibition.

“The North Wales Miners’ Association Trust has put together a comprehensive display aboard the bus, and I would encourage all those with an interest in the history of Wrexham to attend.”
