Rush hour traffic around parts of Wrexham is currently at a standstill this evening due to a car fire on the Gresford Roundabout earlier this afternoon.

UPDATE 5:45: We are told that the sliproad on Gresford Roundabout has reopened. Still very heavy traffic in Wrexham, particularly on Chester Road.

Shortly before 4pm emergency services were called to a car fire on the sliproad towards Chester, on the Gresford Roundabout.

The fire service say they were called 15:41, when they arrived the car was ‘well alight’ and one breathing apparatus and hose reel was used to put the fire out. The fire has now been extinguished but damping down work is ongoing as of 4:10pm.

Sam has sent us the above photo with Kat telling us: “Avoid gresford roundabout at all costs, totally blocked all directions”

Georgia tweeted us to say: “Well done to the man who ran to the car to check everyone was out of the car on Gresford roundabout”

Hannah posted on our Facebook page to say: “I spoke to the both of them at the traffic lights, both okay but obviously both in shock”

Traffic in the area is currently at a standstill in some places with Chester Road, Llan y Pwll link & northbound A483 all affected. The sliproad on to the A483 Chester way is currently closed off.

The roads are likely to be queuing for a while with this picture sent in at 5pm by Daniel Elson, who says a lamppost is being removed. Other images we have seen show melted road signs and damage to the carriageway.

Traffic is queuing on the bypass northbound, with Rhosddu , Llay New Road, Pandy, Llan y Pwll link road and Chester Road all queued. Traffic is being sent back down to the B&Q roundabout to then come back on to the bypass northbound, creating further queues and traffic load northbound.

Pandy out to the Llay New Road is also queuing as access to the roundabout has been stopped. Verity has been in touch with Wrexham.com to say that Llay New Road is currently at a standstill, with cars turning around in the road to avoid the traffic.

We have also been told that police are controlling the traffic at the Gresford turning on Llay New Road, with cars backed up all the way to the VW garage in Rhosrobin and onto the turning towards Acton.

Jane sent us the below photo of the traffic issues, with Scott and David also sending pictures.
