Residents are being urged to “be aware of anyone knocking on your door purporting to be from the council.”

It comes after a van owned by Wrexham Council was broken into.

Police say that a body warmer marked with a council logo has been stolen.

A spokesperson for Wrexham Council said: “Always be vigilant when someone knocks at your door.

“All our staff carry Council ID cards so ask to see it. Never be afraid to ask anyone who knocks on your door to wait while you call the company they’re from for confirmation.

“Any genuine callers will be happy to wait.”

Residents are reminded to ask for ID and to phone the council to see if the individual is legitimate by calling 01978 292000.
