More than 40 volunteers have signed-up for a new AVOW community response team.

The Association of Voluntary Organisation in Wrexham (AVOW) successfully received funding from Welsh Government to develop the new initiative, which is a continuation of the work the organisation has been involved with during the COVID-19 pandemic.

They will work in close partnership with regional emergency response services and local community contacts to respond to local emergencies such as flood, missing person searches or extreme weather situations.

Volunteers have access to free training, and a free DBS check to help them prepare for any volunteering opportunity to help in the community. The training currently available to volunteers includes:

  • First Aid for Mental Health
  • Food Hygiene
  • First Aid
  • Good Governance
  • Safeguarding
  • Equality & Diversity
  • Data Protection

These free training courses and free DBS checks are also available for any volunteer that is already registered with an organisation or community group in Wrexham County Borough.

For more information on what courses are available please visit Eventbrite.
