This is a breaking news story see bottom of page for latest updates

Armed police stormed a house in Meadow Lea in Caia Park this afternoon after reports of a man on the roof with an air rifle.

We were first alerted to sightings of armed police behind ASDA so popped down to the area to find out what was going on.

A crowd of about 70 looked on as police surrounded the house, with a man believed to have a weapon inside.

Police negotiators appeared to be talking to someone however it was later revealed that the suspect had left the scene and was still at large. At one point we had two helicopters up as they changed over coverage.

16:38 Update
Armed police got into cars and left and normal police moved in instead.

16:45 Update
Bizarre end to the incident as police pack up and leave very quickly.  We are heading back to our office.

17:02 Update:

We have been given a police statement saying : “Police were called to an address Meadow Lea , Spring Lodge, Caia Park Wrexham after reports that a man was on the roof of a property firing an air weapon. There are no reports of anyone being injured or property damaged. Police attended  and an air weapon was recovered from the roof of the address.  The armed operation has now ended.

Local residents were very keen on us to ensure it was clear no weapon was found, however the above statement contradicts this.

No arrests were made however police say “inquiries continue to locate the suspect“.
