Armed police are attending a stand off with a man in Caia Park that began just after 1pm today.

UPDATE: 5:34pm  Further update from North Wales Police who say they are still managing the scene. Police say: “Key skill in negotiations is patience, key focus for police is everyone’s safety.”

UPDATE 5:05pm The armed stand off is entering a fifth hour in Caia this evening, with police just announcing the ‘evacuation is complete’ of nearby houses. Police cordons are in place, with what appears to be shift changes of the fire service as replacement units arrive on the scene. Darkness has fallen, and the scene is described as ‘quiet’.

UPDATE 4:45pm: After spending some time away from the area, the police helicopter has returned, appearing to head over Caia presumably to assist with the incident.

UPDATE 4:25pm: The armed stand off is into a fourth hour in Caia, where locally it is reported a man is refusing to leave a property, and could be armed. Thanks to Charlotte for the below picture from earlier this afternoon of what appears to be armoured police by a vehicle.

UPDATE 3:45pm: Police have reiterated the request to stay away from the incident area, as nearby properties are being ‘evacuated’, specifically asking for cooperation.

UPDATE 3:20pm: North Wales Police have just issued a statement that reads: “At approximately 1:05pm today, Wednesday 16th December North Wales Police responded to reports of a disturbance inside a house in Coed Aben, Wrexham.

“A man, understood to be the occupier is refusing to leave. No one else is currently believed to be in the premises.”

North Wales Police say officers have “contained” the address with the intention of protecting the public then safely detaining the man.

Police say “Specialist negotiators are also attempting to resolve the matter peacefully and return the area to normality as soon as practicable. North Wales Police are asking the public to stay away from the immediate area to allow officers to deal safely with the incident”
