‘Appropriate legal process’ underway to ‘resolve’ situation with man camping in Rhosddu for a month
Wrexham Council have said legal processes are being followed to resolve the situation of a man camping in Rhosddu.
Local Councillor Marc Jones published a statement yesterday regarding an individual who has been camped in a publicly accessible area of Rhosddu area for the last month.
Cllr Jones said, “Since he arrived, I’ve been working with local residents, the police, council and other agencies to try to resolve the matter. I’d like to publicly thank those residents for their patience in recent weeks.
Cllr Jones says the individual ‘came to Rhosddu specifically to access support services’ however ‘despite all the services we have on our doorstep, nothing practical has been done to alter the situation’.
He added, “The Public Space Protection Order that covered the park was allowed to lapse in March without a replacement, meaning that the council could not take immediate action despite being the owners of the park. The police have no powers unless a crime has been committed.”
Cllr Jones says he had been hoping for a resolution over the past few weeks however wrapped up by saying: “It’s gone on for long enough now and the softly, softly approach isn’t working.”
Ian Bancroft, Chief Executive, told us: “We fully understand Cllr Jones frustration with this situation and can assure him and residents in the area we are following the appropriate legal process which does take time.”
“We are hopeful for a resolution to this difficult situation soon.”
