An appeal for information has been launched after the “sad and distressing discovery” of a decomposed dog in the Wrexham area.

The small brown terrier was found in a bush by a dog walker found near the old Bersham colliery spoil heap on Thursday 30th August.

The dog was decomposed, covered in maggots and was wearing a maroon and white jumper.

RSPCA inspector Tim Jones said: “This must have such a distressing discovery for the dog walker, but we’d like to thank them for contacting us.

“We’re not sure what happened to this poor dog, who had both of their front legs covered in dressings. There was no microchip found so we’re not able to find out who is the owner.

“The dog was wearing a jumper and there was a plastic bag and towel nearby.

“The dog was very decomposed so it was unclear if it was a male or female. The dog may have been there for a while, or a wild animal could have dug up the body.”

If anyone has any information they can contact our inspectorate appeal line on 0300 123 8018. All calls treated in confidence.
