An acclaimed chef will be bringing a unique destination restaurant experience to Wrexham later this year when he embarks on his first North Wales venture.

Mark Ellis, who represented the North West in two series of the BBC’s hit Great British Menu, will open his new restaurant and wine bar in the 5 Star award winning The Plassey, near Bangor-on-Dee.

Titled the ‘Shippon’ by Mark Ellis’, the site at The Plassey is being extensively refurbished into a unique destination restaurant and bar which, once complete will feature a lounge, wine bar and its own wine tasting room.

This will be Mark’s second restaurant opening in 12 months, with Allium in Tattenhall opening last summer.

The building was originally a model Milking Parlour built in 1902 by local Horse Auctioneer Mr Frank Lloyd with many beautiful and unique features including glazed walls and drinking troughs, brick arches and parquet floors.

The Brookshaw family took ownership of The Plassey in 1960 as a working farm and over last five decades have transformed The Plassey into a top North Wales Holiday Park, Retail Village and Golf Course.

Commenting on the upcoming launch of Shippon, Mark said he was looking forward to offering the ‘wow factor’ for guests across Wrexham and the wider area.

He continued: “It is a privilege to be teaming up with the owners of The Plassey to complement the product at the already outstanding 5 Star Leisure Park and provide another truly unique space and ‘wow factor’ area for all guests local and further afield.

“This an exciting project to be involved in following on from the tremendous success of our first restaurant Allium- Tattenhall which has had an incredible first year and has already caught the attention of The Michelin Guide, Hardens Guide and was runner up for Best Small Hotel and Boutique Accommodation from Marketing Cheshire, and more recently received a score of 8/10 from The Telegraph and we will continue this success at Shippon.”

John and Sarah Brookshaw, owners of The Plassey added: “We are delighted to be working with Mark Ellis on our new business venture.

“We always strive to offer our customers the highest of standards and a truly unique experience, whether it is visiting for a few hours, a day out or a stay at our Holiday Park.

“Mark’s fantastic culinary background was exactly what we were looking for in a partnership to provide a top fine dining experience in our area.

“We can’t wait to open the doors and welcome you all very soon”.

The official opening date of Shippon by Mark Ellis is to be announced shortly.
