A Councillor has welcomed continued accident reduction work by Wrexham Council on a vital artery to the community.

Councillor Paul Rogers who represents Brymbo and Tanyfron worked with Wrexham Council officers to secure £40,000 of accident reduction funding for the B5101 and Brymbo Link Road which was recently renamed Heritage Way.

Over the past week council contractors have been installing new signage along the Link Road.

The works were carried out during National Road Safety Week.

In recent years the stretch of road near the Brymbo Sports and Social Complex has been plagued with accidents – frequently resulting in calls from local residents and councillors for more to be done to prevent such incidents happening.

In October 2016 resurfacing works on the accident hotspot began in a bid to tackle the number of accidents.

New signage and road markings including 40mph repeaters and “Reduce Speed Now” warnings have also been implemented at key locations.

Commenting on the works Councillor Paul Rogers said: “I am pleased Wrexham County Borough Council continue to focus on reducing accidents at this location.

“During the last four years we have reduced the speed limit from 60 to 40mph. We have improved the road surface and now we are going to improve and refresh road markings as well as signage at this location.

“Obviously each accident has had it’s individual circumstances however such works can only help.

“There is a major issue at this location.

He added: “Wrexham Council are playing their part. Go Safe and North Wales must also play theirs to address the issue of reckless driving.

“I am also pressing for interactive warning signage on this stretch of road and hope we can secure these in the near future.”
