The A5 by Chirk has reopened just after 10pm last night with a 40mph limit in place.

Original Story Below…
The A5 in Chirk reopening has been delayed further after it was closed yesterday following a three vehicle collision.

Updates yesterday stated that the road was due to reopen around 5pm today, however the latest update says this could now be put back to 10pm this evening but could even take through into tomorrow morning.

The incident took place between the A483 Halton Roundabout and the B5070 Chirk Road / Station Road (Gledrid Roundabout) at 1:50pm yesterday. A tractor, a Vauxhall Corsa and a Ford Fiesta were involved in the incident, which took place across both lanes of the bridge.

A tractor was left with two wheels over the railing on the bypass as a result of the incident, with Llangollen Fire later tweeting that the vehicle was in a dangerous position.

Two people were taken to the Wrexham Maelor Hospital yesterday with minor injuries as a result of the incident. It is believed that the driver of the tractor did not sustain any injuries.

As a result of the collision the road has been closed for over 24 hours while repair work takes place.

During the road’s closure, diversions have been put in place via Chirk – with one motorist stating it took over an hour to travel from Oswestry to Wrexham yesterday.
