A483 fully reopens – Police appeal launched following fatal collision

UPDATE 6:15PM The road has now fully reopened in both directions – the first southbound layby is coned off and closed.

UPDATE 4PM: The north bound carriageway has reopened.

Crime scene investigation teams are at the scene of the incident, along with recovery vehicles. The HGV involved is being removed via a low loader.

No further update has been issued as of yet.

UPDATE 2PM: A sad update from police following the incident on the A483 this morning. The section of road remains fully closed.

Cheshire Police have sadly said a 27-year-old man from Chester has died at the scene of an incident on the A483 this morning. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

In a statement the force said, “At 9.25am on Monday 7 August Cheshire Police were called to a two-vehicle collision on the border with North Wales. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“The collision involved a blue BMW 3 series and a stationary HGV parked in a layby on the A483. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“Sadly, the driver of the BMW, a 27-year-old man from Chester, died at the scene. Next of kin have been informed. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“The A483 is closed from Belgrave traffic lights/Junction to J7 A483 Rossett, south bound, while emergency services work at the scene. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“The road is also closed northbound between junction 7 and the Post House roundabout. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“Anyone with information should call Cheshire police on 101 quoting IML 1614843. ” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

UPDATE 1PM:

Police are appealing for witnesses following the serious incident on the A483 this morning – with the bypass now fully closed as of 12:50 PM.

Traffic Wales have said as of 12:50PM “Both directions are now closed until further notice. The road in this area is likely to be shut for some time.”

Cheshire Police are leading the investigation, and said, “At 9.25am on Monday, Cheshire Police were called to a two-vehicle collision on the border with North Wales.

“The A483 is closed from Belgrave traffic lights/Junction to J7 A483 Rossett, southbound, while emergency services work at the scene. The road is also closed northbound between junction 7 and the Posthouse roundabout.

“Anyone with information should call Cheshire police on 101 quoting IML 1614843.”

Diversions are in place using Wrexham Road south to the Rossett junction.

Crash investigation work is now taking place, with the fire service and ambulance service no longer at the scene.

UPDATE 11:36AM: North Wales Police have confirmed that the A483 is now completely closed between Junction 7 from Burton / Rossett and the traffic lights before the Posthouse Roundabout.

The road is likely to be shut for a while, North Wales Police have said.

Officers are asking motorists to avoid the area if possible.

UPDATE 11:05AM Local police have said, “We’re currently dealing with a two vehicle collision on the border with North Wales. The A483 is closed from Belgrave traffic lights/Junction to J7 A483 Rossett, south bound. Please avoid the area and take alternative routes.”

UPDATE 11AM: The road remains closed, and traffic ‘is flowing’ on Wrexham Road.

First update below…

A vehicle fire has closed the A483 southbound this morning.

North Wales Police have said, “A483 CLOSURE, From Belgrave traffic lights/Junction to J7 A483 ROSSETT, SOUTH BOUND, emergency services at scene dealing. Expect delays.”

One ambulance is attending the incident that appears to have occurred at the first layby southbound, with a large vehicle on fire.

Debris from the fire has entered lane one.

Nearby traffic is ‘gridlocked’ affecting the Posthouse roundabout and nearby routes. A483 traffic is being diverted to the old Wrexham Road.
