A Number Of Wrexham Schools To Close Due To Union Strike

Primary and secondary schools across the country face closure this week as teachers take part in their first national strike in three years.

Members of NUT (National Union of Teachers) will take strike action on Wednesday over: ‘Excessive workload and bureaucracy, performance related pay and unfair pension changes’ (as stated on the teachers.org website)

It is estimated that more than 10,000 schools across England and Wales are at risk of one day closure.

Across North Wales 47 schools have confirmed they will be closed on Wednesday along with the partial closure of a further 35 schools.

In Wrexham a number of schools have confirmed they will be closed / partially closed on Wednesday.

These schools are: Victoria Primary, Rhosddu Primary School, Johnstown Juniors, Rhosnesni, St. Mary’s Catholic Primary, St. Anne’s, Ysgol Bro Alyn, Alexandra CP & Assessment Centre, Barkers Lane, Gwenfro, Hafod y Wern, Ysgol Penrhyn and Ysgol Bryn Alyn. However the latter will be open to year 11 pupil’s sitting their exams.

Deiniol, Penycae, St Peter’s, Black Lane, Borras Park, Bro Alun, Heulfan, All Saints, Plas Coch Rhosymedre and Maes y Mynydd will be partially closed.

So far only two schools listed on the Wrexham Council website as due to close on Wednesday. The website states that Cefn Mawr CP School will be partially closed due to insufficient staff cover. Full details can be found below:

Further Information: On Wednesday 26th the school will be open to the following classes only- Y2/3 Mrs Hughes) pm only, Y3/4 (Mrs Ellis), Reception Class (Mrs Goodwin), Y4 (Mrs Brown) pm only, Y5 Mrs Green, Y6 Miss Jones.

 

Ysgol Penrhyn, New Broughton CP – Closed

The school is closed for the following reason(s):

Insufficient staff cover
Further Information: We will be closed to pupils on Wednesday 26th March.
