A ‘riot’ occurred in January as the 99p Store held a sale, so we popped along this morning to see if the scenes would be repeated for the latest discount offer.

Our story made headlines around the world for good and bad reasons, so with the 99p store now offering things for 60p we wondered if there would be similar bedlam in town early this morning.

Some keen shoppers queued peacefully waiting for the store to open (pictured above), and proceeded in a normal manner to buy the items they wanted.

Baskets were loaded up as you would expect, with one person very chuffed that he could get a proper mop for 60p.

One issue in January was complaints the offer was not clear, however there was plenty of signage in the store today.

Laden shoppers made their way back through town, with others calling a taxi to pick them up.

All in all a ‘non story’, however it does show that we do still love a bargain and can enjoy them in a calm way!

It did also trigger a small discussion on how local independents can compete when an item can be made thousands of miles away, shipped to the UK, locally distributed and sold for sixty pence with a profit still being made.

For those interested we think the sale is ongoing for the rest of today, or as they say, as stocks last!
