‘Sickening’ £8000 Mower Theft Hits Local Cricket Club
A local cricket club has had £8,000 worth of new mowers stolen after a break in during the early hours of Monday morning.
The items were stolen during a break in at Gwersyllt Cricket Club, with thieves snapping secured locks to bypass a steel security gate. The thefts came at a particularly bad time as the items stolen were not insured as the volunteer run club were discussing ways to raise money to pay for the insurance.
The Club said “It’s really sickening. The league are passing a wicket mower over so we can play this weekends games, we hope police catch them. We don’t have the money to replace the equipment. Such a sad day for the club.”.
Hydraulics were also broken leaking oil all over the floor (top picture).
A Club member told us “We have currently only been able to have a quick look over the CCTV which shows torches on the shed at around 12:30am on Monday 21st April, by 1am a Jeep speeds past with no lights on. We are currently unable to determine what time this Jeep entered the premises. The Jeep appeared to be dark coloured.”
“The items missing are worth approximately £8,000, and are specialist machines suitable for only Cricket/Bowls”.
The Club have listed what has been stolen and ask for people to be alert for people offering them for sale:
- A Powerroller Engine off a brand new roller purchased in February this year
- Massport (20″) multicut wicket mower complete with grass box (brand new in March this year)
- A Webb (30/36″) Square Mower complete with grass box and detachable rear seat. This machine was reconditioned during the winter.
If anybody is approached about buying such machinery they are currently being urged to contact the cricket club (Mr Ron Pearson the Secretary/Groundsman) or the police.
