A further 72 Blockbuster stores up and down the country face closure and redundancies, however the Wrexham store will continue to trade.

Blockbuster is currently in administration for the second time this year, after it went into administration last month. In January 160 of the Blockbuster stores were closed, with a further 164 shut in February.

Last week it was announced that a further 72 of the remaining 264 stores in the UK faced closure.

In a list released by the store’s administrators Moorfields Corporate Recovery, a further 72 of the remaining Blockbuster units will be closed. This includes stores in Dover, Poole and Kettering.

However there are signs in the Wrexham Blockbuster window saying ‘Closing Down – Everything Must Go’, but it is believed the store will continue to trade.

Joint administrators Simon Thomas and Nick O’Reilly said: “The decision to close some stores has not been taken lightly, however the remaining stores remain open for business and we are continuing to market the business for sale as a going concern. Currently we are offering attractive discounts which are generating additional sales.

“We want to be as open and transparent as possible throughout this process and will hopefully be in a position, within the next 7 days, to provide staff and customers with another update very shortly.”

Blockbuster joins the ever growing list of names that have struggled in the ‘digital revolution’ and have recently exited the ‘high street’. These names include HMV, Jessops, Game, Comet and Staples.
