700 Sign Petition To Prevent Demolition Of Golden Groves
A petition has had over seven hundred signatories supporting the preservation of the Golden Groves in Rossett.
Back in January Wrexham.com first wrote about the plans to demolish the former public house and posed the question if the building was as historic as claimed.
Local Councillor Hugh Jones has replied on the issue saying: “As a result of pressure the current applicants have commissioned the Clwyd Powys Archaeological Trust to carry out a review of the current status of the building” but does go on to state that Wrexham Council’s powers are limited.
The petition statement by Jason Rodgers reads: “To demolish the Golden Grove is wrong on so many levels.
“This building dates back to 13th Century, the likes of Oliver Cromwell and the Romans stopped at this very Inn for refreshments.
“The building has been neglected in the hope it will be delisted and unfortunately has been, but thats not to say it can be reversed.
“To flatten this amazing place of history just to make way for two new house builds beggars belief and is purely for money, it would make sense to spend a bit of money to turn it into a single dwelling and retain the original features and appearance.
“I implore everybody to make a stand and join me to do something about this. ”
The petition itself could be futile if it is not submitted as a whole direct to Wrexham Council, with a Planning Officer noting: “Unfortunately the Council cannot take into account petitions on external websites. We can only take into account representations that are submitted to us.”
