£500k Investment To Upgrade Roads In Wrexham
An additional £500,000 is to be invested in the maintenance of roads in Wrexham.
The extra half a million pound investment comes as a result of a public consultation held by the Council last year.
This additional funding together with a re-prioritisation of budgets will see £11m invested into infrastructure maintenance including around £8m allocated to maintain and improve the condition of the road network over the next four year.
Feedback from the Council’s ‘Difficult Decision’ public consultation identified that highways maintenance was an important factor to Wrexhamites – who noted the importance of good and well maintained roads.
Speaking about the investment into road maintenance in Wrexham, Lead Member for Environment and Public Protection, Cllr David Bithell said Wrexham Council are ‘committed’ to spending more money on maintaining roads in the County.
Cllr Bithell added: “Residents did not want to see a cut in maintenance.”
Each year assessments are undertaken on the condition of Wrexham’s roads with performance measured against other local highway authorities in Wales. Most recent assessments undertaken in 2014 have shown that the percentage of Wrexham’s A and B road network identified as being in poor condition is less than 3%.
However Cllr Bithell added that there is still work to be done on C roads in Wrexham, which include estate roads and classified roads.
The Council Executive Board will meet for this month’s meeting on May 12th at 2pm. For those who can’t make the meeting it is anticipated that it will be webcast live on the Wrexham Council website.
