A £400,000 project to upgrade the gas network in the Bache Mill Road area of Llangollen is underway.

The work is essential to keep the gas flowing safely to heat and power local homes and businesses, keeping people safe and warm for generations to come.

It started earlier this month and, barring any engineering difficulties, it will finish during May.

To plan the work Wales & West Utilities has liaised with Denbighshire County Council and it has been agreed that traffic management will be in place as the works progress. This currently includes road closures on:

  • Fron Bache (until 26 January)
  • Vicarage Road (22 January – 2 February)
  • Hill Street (5 February – 15 March)
  • Butlers Hill (25 March – 12 April)
  • Grange Road (15 April – 7 May)
  • Oak Road (29 April – 14 May). During this time Chapel Street will be closed to traffic entering from Regent Street but will be accessible from Bridge Street through to Regent Street.

Wales & West Utilities Adam Smith, who is managing this gas pipe upgrade work, said: “We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it really is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future.

“We’ll have a team of gas engineers on site throughout the project to make sure our work is completed as safely and as quickly as possible while keeping disruption to a minimum.

“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across Llangollen.

“Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.

“This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport hydrogen and biomethane, so we can all play our part in a green future.”
