New real-time information screens and an external clean-up will feature as part of a series of improvement works at the town’s bus station.

Nearly £250,000 is to be spent on essential repairs and refurbishments at the Wrexham Bus Station following grant approval from the Welsh Government’s Local Transport Network Fund.

Other planned improvements that bus users can expect include new bins and refurbished toilets.

The station is one of the busiest in Wales providing for over 168,000 bus service departures and it is hoped that help improvements will go some way to ensuring the station meets the needs and expectations of customers.

In addition to the works for visitors there will also be further essential repairs and refurbishment of the staff facilities and access arrangements.

The planned refurbishment is the latest in improvement works to take place at the bus station in the past year, with a new information office opening in April 2018.

£73,000 of Welsh Government grant and the council’s budget also helped fund the installation of new LED writing, aesthetic changes and new netting to keep pigeons out of the building.

Cllr David A Bithell, Lead Member for Environment and Transport, said: “This is excellent news and follows on from works last year to improve the lighting together with the re-opening of the Information Office.

“We are grateful to the Welsh Government for their recognition and support for one of the busiest bus stations in Wales.

“Despite what has been and continues to be a very challenging period for the local bus industry, this investment demonstrates both the Welsh Governments and Wrexham Council’s commitment and acknowledgement of the importance of local bus services to the people of Wrexham.

“I believe users and bus operators will welcome the improvements to refurbish and modernise.”
