19 catalytic converters stolen from vehicles parked in Wrexham Council depot
Council property repairs were affected following a significant theft of catalytic converters from a council depot over a month ago.
In early December we asked Wrexham Council about the then rumours of a large scale theft of catalytic converters from a council compound, if there was an appeal following the thefts, and what them impact on services was considering the large number of vehicles off the road.
We also asked about the security of depots and what steps are being taken to ensure a similar incident can’t occur again.
This month Lead Member for Housing Councillor David A Bithell said: “Prior to Christmas we had damage caused to a number of our vehicles. This damage was reported to North Wales Police.
“In the meantime housing officers are working to repair our vehicles. We apologise for any delays in repairing our properties as a result of this, however urgent and priority repairs have been undertaken during this period.”
North Wales Police then confirmed, “At 8.30am on December 6th, 2023, we were made aware of a report of the theft of 19 catalytic converters from vehicles parked in a Wrexham Council depot on Ruthin Road, Wrexham.
“The incident is believed to have happened sometime between 7pm on Tuesday, December 5th and 7am on Wednesday, December 6th.
“Anybody with information, who has not already been in touch with officers that could assist with case, is asked to contact us on 101, or via the website, using reference number 23001233507”
