Members of the public are advised to check for changes to the waste collection calendar over the Christmas season.

Wrexham Council say there will only be one week of changes to collection days.

With more food and drink likely to be consumed over the Christmas period, those households which have not got a recycling box for glass or a food caddy can obtain one by e-mailing Contact Wrexham on [email protected].

Wrapping paper and Christmas cards can also be placed in the blue bag – though tape, bows and ribbons must be removed first.

And after presents have been unwrapped and unboxed, any extra cardboard which may not fit in your blue bag can be folded and left at the side of your recycling containers.

Unwanted textiles can also be recycled, if left in a carrier bag, or non-charity collection bag.

Cllr David A. Bithell, Lead Member for Environment and Transport, said: “We know people go through more packaging, containers, food and drink than usual at Christmas, and we want to ensure any extra waste is properly recycled.

“If all proper measures are taken in advance, ensuring household waste is properly disposed of and recycled will be one less thing to deal with over the Christmas period.

“And anyone having a clear-out to make space before Christmas should also keep in mind the new FCC and Nightingale House Hospice Reuse shop on Bryn Lane, Wrexham Industrial Estate.”

Those who are not signed up for e-mail alerts for their collection days can do so at the Wrexham Council website.
