100,000+ North Wales residents now fully vaccinated against COVID-19

Over 100,000 North Wales residents have now been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, with 316,887 people receiving a first dose of the vaccine.

In the latest update issued by the local health board Chris Stockport, Executive Director of Primary and Community Care said, “Thanks to the incredible support of our staff, primary care partners and volunteers, more than 100,000 North Wales residents have now been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, with a further 316,887 people receiving a first dose of the vaccine.”

“Because of significant delays to the UK’s COVID vaccine supply, from early April we will receive less vaccine in April than we had originally planned for. Despite this setback, we still remain on course to meet the Welsh Government’s target of offering a first dose of the vaccine to everyone in Priority Groups 1-9 by April 19th, and to the rest of the population by the end of July, subject to there being no further interruption to our vaccine supply.”

“I would like to thank people across the region for their patience and understanding as we work through these supply challenges. Please be assured that we are working as quickly as we can with the supply we have.”

Vaccination progress as at March 29^th 2021:

• 418,914 total vaccinations have been administered in North Wales
• First dose vaccines – 316,887
• Second dose vaccines – 102,027

Percentage of people in Priority Groups who have received a first dose:

• Priority Group 5 (ages 65  to 69): 92 per cent
• Priority Group 6 (ages 16 to 64 in an at risk group): 78 per cent
• Priority Group 7 (ages 60 to 64): 78 per cent
• Priority Group 8 (ages 55-59): 46 per cent
• Priority Group 9 (ages 50-54): 24 per cent

The health board have also provided a view ahead,

Vaccination supply for the week ahead:  This week we expect to receive 23,000 first dose and 12,000 second dose vaccines.

Who we are currently vaccinating and how they will be contacted:

This week the health board are continuing to provide vaccination to the following groups, with invitations made by letter, text message and phone call:

• People aged 65-69 years (Priority Group 5)
• People aged 16-64 years with underlying health conditions (Priority Group 6)
• People aged 60-64 years (Priority Group 7)
• People aged 55-59 years (Priority Group 8)
• People aged 50-54 years (Priority Group 9)
• Second doses to those who have received their first vaccination up to 12 weeks ago
• People in Priority Groups 1-4 who were not able to take up an appointment when they were originally invited

Mr Stockport added, “If you receive an invitation for an appointment but are sure that you do not wish to be vaccinated then please let us know so that we can offer that appointment to somebody else.”
