Definitely, it seems that children don’t walk anywhere these days, or is it the parents that seem reluctant to use their legs apart from the gym after driving there :)

It’s not just children who can’t be expected to walk in the rain, apparently it’s our esteemed councillors too. See the ‘Signing of Co-operation Protocol’ thread for more details.
Well I’m sure if our councillors use country parks they will pay too, slightly different than a place of work. Unless there’s a secret country park for just councillors and senior officers?
“Meanwhile, if the country Park charging scheme goes ahead, we hear it could affect the ability of over 200 children to enjoy the health benefits of the outdoors and sport.”

What? It’s £1 a day isn’t it?? If parents are that bothered about their kids playing football then surely that’s not going to put them off. It seems a reasonable fee for parking on private land.
Spot on! Tired of seeing people moaning about their kids will no longer able to do football and become lazy because of parking charges. Am I missing something? If you don’t want to pay car park charges WALK to the country park, it may surprise some that you can walk in the rain too after all they play football in it! My view on this is, if we are lucky to have country parks and I’m driving my air polluting car to one then I’d expect to pay to park it.

That’s where you’re wrong Derek! We get lots of tweets and 3.58% rise in our council tax for North Wales police, very nice of the man. Should cover a few extra bottles of champagne at the next ball 👌🍾🍾🍾🍾

Well said! All self gratification, not seeing much advertisement from them about one of their councillors standing for election in Alun & Desside. So Plaid councillors, the saviours of public money are campaigning in another constituency whilst getting paid by Wrexham council represent the people of Wrexham! Well what a great use of council money! Showing what they really think of Wrexham, just want to be elected anywhere to have more wages funded by the tax payer!

Sportsboy may have a point, I’m sure there will be a lot of activity going on in the pub now one of our very own Plaid councillor is standing for election in Alyn and Deeside! What happened to her commitment to Wrexham? Career position springs to mind.

    After watching the last council
Meeting webcast. I find it strange that Plaid go on about IPads ect, yet the council are required to use headphones for 1 person who speaks Welsh when he feels like doing so. Surely this comes at a cost? I’m not against Welsh speaking but there’s some hypocrisy when doing it to suit, especially when the tax payer has to fund the bill for equipment to enable translation.
Another massive shame that yet another local bus company has gone bust. Arriva soon to have the monopoly on local public transport and they’ll only run routes that are profitable and be able to hike up fairs on routes that previously had multiple providers.

The ending of the Barkers lane service means that elderly people (as I believe that’s who primarily benefitted from it) from all the affected estates will either have to walk all the way down to Chester Road or to Borras shops to get a bus into town.

If the Welsh Assembly turnover this ridiculous Thatcherite Ban – Wrexham Council could set-up a local authority ran bus service, which would be beneficial to all. Details on the consultation to be published next year.

Excellent idea! Why not add more expense on a council facing cuts 😕

Everyone has a right to a pension we can’t go back to the days where people weren’t offered one.
Hasty yet again Flipper, there was a Plaid manifesto for Wrexham published in May, it included a whole range of local policy ideas, maybe have a read before being so quick to criticise? It’s also Plaid who are dragging the exact budget issues you mention through the scrutiny process, the budget hasn’t gone through scrutiny in Wrexham for years. It will now go to every committee and it has been a Plaid Councillor who has tabled that in all 5 committees, as well as demanding this is an automatic process from next year. You need to do your homework or expect corrections.
Did their manifesto cover the budget and how to manage it without making cuts? They’ve tabled at 5 committees but to what use? Just to look good and build their egos. Easy to do when you’re a tiny opposition!
look at the allowances assembly members and mp get its mad what about them cutting their allowance no chance and it’s the same with the councillors I would imagine? Frankly I wouldn’t do what they do for a gold clock. The reason we are in this mess is the massive borrowing by sucsessive labour governments, we are now paying the price, I agree councillors do get payed to much but our Am’s & mp’s have a part to play also lobby them, after all it’s down to them that we are in this dreadful mess.

Multiple layers of bureaucracy and those doing the deeds on a UK-wide, Welsh and county level basis are seen to be running everywhere into the dogs and are getting well publicised pay rises whilst everyone else is facing pay freezes, which are in reality cuts when inflation is carrying on, including incredibly damaging spikes in housing costs and fuel/utilities.

A lobby does need to be put in place nationally and many are fighting the good fight. But right here and right now local councillors are just not doing good enough within the means that have been provided to them. So we begin locally on a local platform. I mean how much money was wasted in legal challenges on the Groves site – I believe well over £100,000. That money could have had a boatload of better uses serving the community.
And look at the who fought to save the Groves to earn a few extra votes, the same ones who are shouting off about budget cuts! You couldn’t make it up!
