I was in town early one morning and was able to park & nip into a shop to pick something up. I said at the time, that this is what Wrexham lacks. Who wants to pay to park when you just want to nip into a bank or pick up a prescription or a bouquet of flowers. Time is short for most of us these days & not many people have time to walk around the shops for two hours.

There are a few spots where you can do this (Chester Street, Crescent Road, Pentrefelin, Brook Street, Bridge Street, St Georges Crescent) but spaces are limited and seem to be taken by people staying there for hours.

The slip road off the bypass at Ruabon is closed for line painting tonight – might be some noise/smell.

Didn’t see the advance warning signs for this, just had to go all the way down to McDonalds and back.

Now that they have dug all the soil away from the central reservation, I thought it was interesting that there was already a long right turn filter lane under the grass complete with road markings!

Maybe they are going to give this bit of road a wash and reuse it, hence the work now only taking 3 months ;)

Does anyone have any photos of what the junction used to look like before the current layout? Were there traffic lights there before?

Last time there was a rooftop “protest” in Wrexham parts of the roof were ripped up and thrown at people in the street below…

I didn’t hear anything in Cefn last night or this morning.

What sort of noise was it? Are network rail doing some work on the railway line?
Every few months around here there’s a rumbling/droning noise (like someone running a generator) that seems to start in the evening and go on through the night.

We just came back from the coast along the A55, turned off at the posthouse roundabout and found we couldn’t turn right to Wrexham. The queue towards Wrexham was back to Rossett at 8.30pm!
There are no warning signs on the A55 eastbound at all. The outside lane of the Sainsburys junction was queuing with people trying to do a U turn at the traffic lights. You really need to be in the left hand lane to go around but you don’t get told this until you are at the roundabout.
I drive through here to work and back every day and haven’t seen any signs for this set of works. Some large signs have been at the side of the A55 sliproad coming from the M53 but they have been folded up closed. We double checked on the way back from the diversion.
The only temporary signs I have seen between the two roundabouts has been to say there is limited parking in Chester due to the races.

The roadworks only seem to be on one of the bridges (may be mistaken) in which case I’m not sure why the bit between the Pulford and posthouse roundabouts is down to 1 lane which is what is causing the queue all the way down to Wrexham.

The new cycle route that it is close to had a ‘no cycling’ sign on it last time I went past. I’m not sure if that’s been removed yet.

“Evidence suggests that households who do not shop or pay bills on line can lose on average £560 per year. With Wrexham’s total households amounting to 57,029* at the last Census in 2011 that means Wrexham residents are missing out on just under £32 million extra into the County Borough.

How is WCBC’s new online system going to make this any better?
AFAIK you don’t get a discount on your council tax for paying by direct debit, and there’s no extra charge for paying in cash at the payment office.

There is already an online system for reporting Streetscene issues – it generally seems to be used as a great firewall of Wrexham to fob off members of the public when they report potholes or that the bins haven’t been collected.
It seems you can already pay your council tax online, and apply for licenses online:

The report gives an example of possible ‘reshaping’ of an ‘average sized Welsh Council’. To be clear this is not proposals for Wrexham but an illustration on how cuts could appear:

A 25% reduction in spend on planning in 2014/15
Isn’t the fee for submitting an planning application supposed to cover the cost of it?

Close down all sports and leisure facilities if they cannot be transferred to third sector or operated commercially (without subsidy) by mutual or arms-length organisations
Does Waterworld not make a profit for the council? The gym membership isn’t particularly cheap and the swimming pool is always packed when I’ve been.

@Rob 9445 wrote:

Reduce highways spend by a quarter in 2015/16
For a start:

• Not resurfacing roads then resurfacing again a couple of months later (the road up to Legacy)
• Fixing potholes before doing surface dressing so the new surface lasts longer would (Rhostyllen, Bwlchgwyn etc.)
• Getting contractors back to fix shoddy workmanship so the council doesn’t have to pay for it

But the highways department is only a very small amount of the council’s budget anyway and I think it’s been cut substantially year on year.

(Wrexham to roll out energy-efficient street lights – North Wales Weekly News) Has this been done anywhere yet? New posts were put up in Rhosymedre a long time ago but I don’t think anything has been done with them.

Cut spend on economic development by a half in 2015/16
If overall this brings in more money then it should be kept but I’d be interested to see how many new businesses/jobs have been attracted to Wrexham against all those that have left over the last few years. The Industrial Estate and Technology Park are becoming semi derelict yet the council is still pushing on with the next phase of the Technology Park?

What is third sector funding?

Finally, I was at a local enquiry a few months ago and there were 6 or 7 council staff there just watching, a great way to spend taxpayers money.
