Admittedly the People’s Market is an awful building but the arts hub proposal seems an imaginative way to re-use it and bring life back into the town centre. There’s a lack of arts & performance space in Wrexham. Some of the comments on this thread raise valid critical points but where are the alternative viable proposals for regenerating this quarter?

Yes, Iceland is coming: so much for global warming. There’ve been notices on the building for some time.

I found Brantano useful but it never seemed to be busy, and there are plenty of places selling shoes.

My instant reaction to the proposed elevation of the new building was that the monopitch roof was too heavy & would be a very dominant feature of the street scene.
Also, conservation area guidance recommends use of painted timber window frames. The Design & Access Statement (p.4) says “It is inappropriate in terms of scale, maintenance or strength to consider the use of painted timber window frames and the window frames will therefore be solid-colour aluminium or GRP” Allowing this would set a difficult precedent in the Conservation Area. Rather than pastiche the Georgian facades, I’d rather have a distinctive modern building in a similar vein to the bus station.
