Debate is a crucial word here — from watching most of the broadcasts it is clear that debate is stifled and certainly any opportunity to ask meaningful questions the presenter of the report is virtually non existent. A council Chamber is supposed t be a debating chamber — lets hope the web casting will help reintroduce this type of involvement of Council Members rather than paying lip service and then nodding things through on the vote of the 10 Executive Members only.
Would also be good if the Council set up a live feed for the public to post comments during the meetings.

If everyone followed the advice given by the NHS then we would not have so many delays in hospital A & E
    Choose Well
The NHS only works if there is a proper partnership with the public who should then adhere to the choosewell campaign.

Andrew- well done for standing up for things that you feel shows no unity in the Council– I am sure the staff that deal with Healthy School initiatives etc would be please to hear that at least one Councilor supports all the fantastic work they undertake. It is such a shame that there cant be a single approach.
It might be real nit picking but the Department that supported the Coke vehicle have also had their own notice board made for the bottom of the Christmas tree in Queens Square just wishing people Christmas wishes from THEIR Department – they cant even see themselves as part of the whole Council for something like this.
It is no wonder that staff are feeling they work in an institution full of silos and feel undervalued.
(Sorry this rant has moved away from the Coke thread but working with the Council gets you in this mood)

Not a speeding issue but Police Officers been out today issuing spot fines in Duke Street for cars and bikes going down towards Regent Street. I realize cars shouldn’t go down but it has become so common now because the inconsiderate bus drivers who don’t know the length of a bus often block off Trinity Street so the public turn down Duke Street to avoid the delays.
Traffic in King Street, Duke Street and Trinity Street should be looked at as one problem – Duke Street turn off is a consequence of other problems.
Good Christmas cheer to receive a spot fine

Why not adopt the ideas from other countries – if you are admitted to hospital from alcohol or drug related problems you are sent a bill for the medical attention.
Our Health Service should not have to fund the services for these kind of issues as they are a problem in Society as a whole and these people need Social care support not medical. That is what Champions House is trying to achieve (see other thread). If we don’t invest in preventative and support services the issues in A and E and other part of the Health Service will just reach crisis point.

This is not really about telling people what to do but trying to ensure that people are informed so that they can make judgement rather than being dragged into a single view because a company has a massive marketing campaign.
I am sad however to see one reply saying the Coke wagon as a symbol for the start of Christmas — I thought school nativity preparations, making Christmas cards and decorations and learning carols was the traditional way children built up to the Christmas spirit.
Turning a red lorry into a ‘celebrity’ is very bizarre. I look forward to seeing it being driven onto the stage for the next edition of Britain’s Got Talent!!

I am sorry that so few people have taken my original post with any seriousness– I trust that those of you with small children or grand children have the time to go to the dentist and explain to your children why they are having the left overs of their decayed teeth removed or the diabetic clinic.
Cant any of you remember cleaning 2p pieces by dipping them into Coke when you were in school..

This is yet another example were Council Members and Officers are not discussing issues before meetings. Surely issues of concern like these should be raised at the earliest occasion. Over the past few months it feels like Council Members are losing confidence in their own professionals in the Planning Department with delays and blocks on building projects that have been endorsed by Officers.

Or are shoplifters using new techniques to avoid detection- or are they picking on smaller shops who may not have stock records to show they have lost stock.
The other effect is that if it is down in the town centre have the moved out and the surrounding village shops are being hit instead. There must be a number of reasons as you would think it would increase with people affected by changes in benefits.
