They are asking staff for money saving ideas and they spend that sort of money when they are massively over budget as it is!

The BBC Wales website is carrying an article which is truly frightening, some Welsh health boards are telling English trusts that carry out specialists operations on their behalf to DELAY them. This includes heart operations. Again this is a financial decision without regard to patient needs. The Health Minister , our AM, Lesley Griffiths needs to sort this out. What has caused this problem? English Trusts more efficient and dealing with patients in higher than expected numbers? Charging costs higher than predicted? Welsh Boards unable to manage their money efficiently?

Aled Roberts has joined forces with Darren Millar and Ann Jones to try and prevent the neonatal units moving to Arrowe Park. In their letter to Lesley Griffiths they point out that services in Arrowe Park do not currently meet national guidelines. Why would Bestsi Cadwaladr even consider sending our neonatal’s to such a unit?

Most babies will still be cared for locally but the few that need more care will be sent to Arrowe Park which is a level 3 neonatal intensive care unit that is capable of caring for the smallest and sickest of newborn babies. I am not sure of the number involved and believe that our local services should be developed so that we don’t need to send babies to Centres of Excellence of treatment. It will mean more travelling for the families involved so more expense for them.

Despite a 15 million pound bailout Betsi Cadwaladr will still have a black hole in their finances to the tune of 19 million pounds by 31st March 2013! The question is are they being starved of finance or are they profligate with spending? Unless very detailed accounts were published we are not in a position to decide. The problem is when people have financial difficulties they do not necessarily make the best long term decisions they often panic and do things to give immediate relief!

It seems that resistance to the changes is out there.

A very interesting article in the Daily Post today ( can anyone do a link?). Besti Cadwaladr say approximatly 36 babies per year would need a level 3 unit but some information from elsewhere suggests the number may be nearer 140. Surely there must be accurate figures for North Wales !
