Re traffic calmed areas. Are there figures taken over a specific time period (say 12 months before & after) to show if there fewer accidents in these areas. Actual recorded accidents not percentages. The same with speed restrictions on certain roads.

One final one before the Bubble question… today the below picture of Otis the new drug sniffer dog was tweeted up and got some great reactions online. Someone did ask if they can come and play with her, where as our question is what happened to Molly the old one?

Previously there have been ‘drop in’ centres created for Christmas revellers in town, are there plans for similar this year and are there any new ideas being put forward to help people have a safe and good time on a night out?

Yes there well be a Christmas welfare centre, the organisers are just sorting out the preferred location. This is run by the health board, we have a presence there also but we are secondary to them.

With regard to a safe night out, some taxis have now been equipped with CCTV to reduce risk of incidents in cabs; I will increase the patrol strength for the town ie more uniform presence; school liaison officers will be in town as they know the under age kids trying to get into licensed premises; the new ansi social behaviour Act bbecomes law next week so we will use the additional powers that gives us. A full plan has to be ready for my boss by 31 October. This inclused liaison with other emergency service providers, licencees and town users.

Further to the CCTV question – we have had people mention the usefulness of tweets and social media in terms of police appeals. Is there a link between ‘results’ and tweets , or does it just tick a box in terms engagement?

Wrexham.com often runs a ‘Caught On Camera’ style Most Wanted round up of CCTV that North Wales Police release. Overall it seems to go well but two common bits of feedback are:
    – The quality of the CCTV still is rubbish.
    – Why are members of the public expected to do the polices job for them.

Are you able to briefly outline if crimewatch style CCTV stills are operationally useful and actually bring public help, and is there any feedback to those with CCTV systems to use cameras rather film them on a potato?

Wrexham.com recently received information identifying someone from a CCTV still and that matter will now proceed to arrest and so they are of use, yes. I am also often frustrated by grainy poor images of suspects committing criminal acts. I suppose some of these CCTV systems are cheap to buy and you get what you pay for. Contrast that to the images by town centre CCTV system which are really good and so very useable.
I think it is entirely reasonale to ask the public to identify a suspect from these images. I am not asking you to do our job, I am simply asking for your help which as part of a community is fair I reckon.

My own question now – Wrexham recently suffered a criminal result against Chester away – but was watched by a lowish away following. A ‘bubble’ was again in place with a convoy of coaches leaving the Wrexham area escorted by police, and again in reverse after the game.

The game was played, likely for convenience for TV, at a late kick off on a Monday evening.

Has there been any progress made in de-bubbling any future fixtures as adjustments appear to have been made for television so will adjustments be made for convenience fans?

Yes – we can access that kind of data to see whether our initiatives have succeeded.

Molly popped in with Otis to show him around. Molly is still with us and has a couple of years left in Wrexham yet before retirment. It’ll take that to train Otis us….great name isn’t it?

I get more questions about the safe transport arrangement (bubble match??) that just about anything else. The clubs decided (following consultation with North Wales Police and Cheshire Constabulary) that both fixtures this season would operate this way.
I meet with the head of the department dealing with events, Superintendent Rob Kirman, regularly and we discuss this every time. We hope that the game will not be needed as we hope Wrexham will be promoted, but if that does not happen we will again look at this ahead of next season. We would prefer the game to be a 3pm Saturday kick off, well attended by well behaved fans as we see the inconvenience this arangement causes genuine fans and frankly we do not relish the critiscism.
Ultimately this is decision for the clubs to make following advice from both police forces. For the match here in March I have invited Wrexham.com into the control room to see why we police in a certain way, I hope that will be enlightening.
