I was stuck on the M56 southbound yesterday for 6 hours. I dropped off my grandaughter at Manchester airport
and heading back home was about 200 yards from the tanker on fire. No way of turning around for many hours.
Eventually the police opened a gap in the centre reservation and hundreds of vehicles used it to turn around.
A normal journey of about 2 hours took me 10 hours.
