Shows the problems stem from management rather than those who work at the chalk face but we all knew that anyway!

Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board facing £29m black hole – North Wales Weekly News

Another financial crisis facing Betsi Cadwaladr, a shortfall of 29 million to be found by 31st march 2013. The idea of only the balancing the books once every three years appears to be merely pushing the problem further into the future. They have already recently received some extra money from the Welsh Assembly and there are job vacancies that have not yet been filled. Is it poor management, expensive procurement , PFI contracts or something else at the root of the problem ?

Tonight’s main BBC News highlighting the problems in the University Hospital Cardiff, the major hospital in the capital of Wales. The failings have resulted in people’s lives being unnecessarily lost. We should all be worried about the future of the NHS in Wales.

Twelve lives lost it was reported, I liked the way Jamie Owen fired questions at the head of NHS Wales. He really put him on the spot.
These are terrific amounts of money it’s almost like talking Monopoly money only this is very serious.

This is about the people we love, and in times of crisis and ill health, we don’t want to lose. Facilities like the Maelor have an excellent record of providing care if they are properly resourced and can focus on the patient. The health service in North Wales is £50m out (short / in deficit; and this will probably get worse), needs that extra cash from somewhere; these things don’t just happen, this has been a growing problem for a long time, and nothing has been done about it, hence this report.

We do not want to lose the people we love. In any time of crisis, and not being able to afford to provide the right care, is a crisis – we work night and day to resolve the problem. Just as with a train crash, or the banking crash, this needs attention day and night until we can have confidence that our health service in North Wales is properly secure, and can look after the people we love.

The ex Chief Exec has issued an answer to the charges against her. It’s a bit long but if anyone wants to cast an eye over it the link is below.

Twelve very readable pages, the sad thing is that the writer did not raise/ publish many of these concerns before.

There was an interesting twitter account – @BettiCodswallop I think – which was anonymously tweeting some bits n bobs , however it has now disappeared! Anyone know where it has gone?

I checked the site and could see some activity but the account is now closed. The climate at Betsi at the moment means people are fighting for their jobs so maybe a disgruntled employee has had second thoughts, there are plenty to be found there at the moment.
