Noticed a has camera appeared in Marchwiel the other week and not sure what it is there for, anybody any ideas?

Cant be a speed camera as it is too small.

It is located on A525 on left hand lamp post coming from Wrexham just after Elwyn Drive and its pointed down at road as the limit changes from 40 to 30.

I have added two pics and circled the camera!

I have noticed a few of these. There is one on the Holt road by Waterways garden center pointing to the new roundabout.

Used for traffic census apparently, run by private firms, which in turn sell it back to the council at tax payers cost.

In light of recent privacy scandals, i would hazard a guess that our dear over lords want to monitor every vehicle entering and exiting, all under the guise of protecting us from terrorists :D

Someone said they were linked to the police Automatic Number Plate Recognition system.

Someone said they could be ANPR cameras too so not sure what they are and I havent seen other ones around but will have a look.

Wouldnt be very surprised if it is a way to track everyone as the government likes to dream up ways to either monitor us or charge us more money!

According to the guy who fitted the Marchwiel camera it is traffic census and while this model of camera can record numberplate details the census ones do not have the software to do so.
