zingerParticipantThe coal industry drilled bore holes to find coal seams in much the same way as bore holes now. I have read that drilling for coal also caused very minor earth tremors. What is the difference?

The MonitorParticipantI don’t suppose anyone has realised that if the fact that the graves of miners are allowed to be desecrated because permission was granted because the Company are ‘only drilling for gas’; then the arguement to protect the graves is lost and cannot be use to prevent the drilling and testing for shale oil and so … fracking with all the related problems.
I, personally wouldn’t buy a house in the area ranging from the epicentre of possible damage caused by any fracking activity. So, how many houses are possible affected? What will be the affect on house insurances?? …..

zingerParticipantYou would find it extremely difficult Monitor, to buy a house in the Wrexham area that is not in the vicinity of a coal mine already.
Planning permission has not been requested or granted for ‘fracking’
Scaremongering using the Gresford Disaster should be totally off limits.
Quoting an item on a FB group from the CEO of iGas in answer to a direct question –
“I hope that I have put your fears to rest that we will NOT at any point in the future undertake any activity that would desecrate the resting place of the 253 men and boys that tragically lost their lives”.December 15, 2014 at 1:28 pm #70754
SheefagParticipantProgress and profit, still two very dirty words in the Socialist Republic of Wrexham I see.

Only the latter word applies to this current exercise.

When using the word “fact” in a discussion it helps if your point is factual.
The area of the Gresford Disaster is over one mile away from the test drilling site. This was proven to me by a local ex miner with extensive knowledge of the disaster site backed up by accurate original NCB maps.
If it was “fact” that the disaster area was to desecrated then it would quickly become national issue not a local one with some professional protesters.

MetalheadParticipantLooks as though IGas has found shale in their test drill at Ellesmere Port then… Apparently (like Borras) that test drill was supposed to be for CBM & yet it looks as though they have found shale, which is located at nearly double the depth they were supposed to be drilling to. Easy mistake to make I suppose and it seems that in current planning law that a test drill is a test drill and there’s no stipulation as to exactly how far they are allowed/not allowed to drill. Does anyone honestly trust this company?, I don’t. IGas Ellesmere Port well indicates 'significant' levels of gas – Liverpool Echo

HuwParticipantAmazes me how many more people are bothered about houses being built in Llay than Fracking in their town!

It is a Fact that fracking wells can extend horizontally below ground for over 1 mile so that brings the buried miners within range does it not?

SheefagParticipantIt’s no doubt a coincidence that everyone cares about the poor Gresford miners all of a sudden.
It’s rather sad in fact to see their memory shamelessly hijacked to support the cause of nimbyism. -
