Not sure where to begin with this. If we are relying on monitoring death stats to see when the virus has peaked and when the next steps can be taken to ease any kind of lockdown, then this is nothing short of absolutely shameful from Betsi Cadwaladr delaying reporting of deaths for an entire month then creating an incorrect spike in the whole of Wales stats.

Fully agree Matt – surely it cannot be that difficult to identify a death and feed the information into a recording system- it appears that all other Health Boards have managed so why not in Betsi.
At a time when the future of ALL our lives is relient on correct information for our Health Planners and the Government heads should be rolling.
The next we will be hearing is they have no idea about infection rates as well — the Health Board have been caught out before with misreporting of various cardio cases and other conditions.
The front line staff treating patients are fantastic and deserve a share out of the massive wages that senior managers draw whilst failing the public.
They cannot use Covid as an excuse for this failing as death recording and statistic gathering is normal work.
It also appers that they have not shared with staff the scale of the problems in their own hospitals

Apparently it was something to do with the Data Protection Act, they wanted to protect the families of the deceased.

The Data Protection Act is just an excuse, as the information is anonymised. Good information has always been used to try and keep on top of public health problems. Another example is cancer rates.

If we’ve passed the peak, that by itself isn’t a good reason to ease the lockdown. This ‘novel’ virus is highly contagious, very durable and deadly. It even seems to be viable in the air to some extent. A potential second wave could be even more deadly than the first and rushing things could undo all the good of the present lockdown. If it’s done slowly and carefully, with industrial testing, tracing and isolating, then fair enough.

But if they can’t even get the information right, that doesn’t promise much about their ability to tackle the other issues.

Data Protection legistlation in this situation clearly does not apply and the Information Commissioner made that very clear at least 4 weeks ago. If there was an issue how come all the other Health Borad in the rest of the country have provided information or are we to assume all the National data is wrong. Come on BCU be open and addmit you have failed – again and again and again

A report has been written according to Mark Drakeford but no promise of making it public , only maybe the conclusion will be placed in the public domain. The problem is when we have been misled once then we doubt everything we are being told. Trust when broken is very hard to repair.

So instead of an apology, they blamed a computer glitch because:

    1) They refused to us the official computer reporting system set-up across the rest of Wales
    2) Somehow nobody noticed that the stats weren’t being added in for an entire month

Gross incompetence. They couldn’t even offer an apology for completely misleading the general public and Welsh AM ministers etc…

I feel sorry for all of the frontline doctors, nurses, pharmacists, porters and all the other auxiliary staff at Betsi for busting their chops round the clock to treat North Wales people infected with Covid-19 and prevent as many deaths as possible when the clowns in suits, probably paid more than all but the most senior doctors, are dragging their hospitals into complete disrepute. It is utterly shameful.

Resignations or sackings required after this one.
