Maesydre Candidates Question and Answer

We here at Wrexham.com sent written letters to all 130 odd candidates in the local Wrexham Council elections this year, and here are the replies! Where there is no reply below from a candidate, we did not receive one before the week of the 23rd April. If you are a candidate or voter reading this join in the debate or let us know what you think in our Wrexham Forums!!

David Foulds (Welsh Labour)

1 – Which party do you align yourself with, and why? (Or if non aligned, why not?)

I am a member of the Labour Party and standing as a candidate for the Labour Party – the party for working people.

2 – What will be your first personal priority or aim if you were elected?

My first personal priority will be to get to fully understand the workings of Wrexham County Borough Council, its policies and future plans, budgets and finances so that I can carry out my work as an elected county councillor in an informed manner.

3 – Why do you personally want to be a councillor when so often you just get blamed for problems beyond your control?

I have considered that the time has come again for me to be involved in local politics in order to protect and speak for the vulnerable and also to improve services in our local communities which have been declining under the current Lib Dem/Tory led coalition administration of Wrexham County Council.

4 – Many politicians and local councillors are accused of bring out of touch with voters. What will you do to ensure you stay ‘in touch’?

I work in the healthcare sector in local communities and I believe that I am in touch. I also have three children two of whom are disabled and my eldest daughter works in the hospitality industry. My working and personal life ensures I am in touch with what is happening in the wider world at grassroots levels. I do know the prices of a pint (litre) of milk and a loaf of bread as well as eggs, petrol, electric, my rates and most importantly a pasty.

5 – How do you plan to tackle or prevent anti-social behaviour in your local area?

I have personally suffered from anti social behaviour. This is one of the main reasons I am standing for election because this brutish side of our society needs to be faced head on and tackled. Everyone is entitled to a quality of life without fear or threat. I will work with local communities and all the authorities to identify all areas of anti social behaviour and seek remedies to this ugly side of our society using technology and best practise seen working elsewhere.

6 – Do you think any local authority has the means to improve economic and job opportunities? And if you do, what do you think the priority actions should be?

Local authorities have many means at their disposal to improve economic and job opportunities. These are varied and many and can range from developing local co-operatives to liaising with the local business community on issues that affect them such as business rates and the promotion of the area to developing facilities that make Wrexham a more pleasant and attractive area to develop new businesses and attract new incoming investment.

7 – What do you think has been the best decicion taken by the council in the last four years?

I honestly cannot think of any at all! Maybe the best thing done by the Council was to mess up the city status bid because Wrexham really does not deserve to be lumbered with the unnecessary expense of such a title. It was just posturing by a handful of elitist councillors who ignored the views of the people of Wrexham because they thought they knew best.

8 – What do you think has been the worst decicion taken by the council in the last four years?

To consider building an incinerator instead of looking at better ways to reduce waste and recycle what remains efficiently. Building an incinerator was a lazy option and one influenced by outside interests who were not interested in what the people of Wrexham best needed.

9 – What is your favourite place to visit or favourite thing to do in the local area?

I love visiting the Telford basin where there is a lovely pub, fantastic views and I am so pleased (and not at all surprised) that this is now a World Heritage site.

10 – If you had to pick your best memory connected to Wrexham, what would it be?

It has to be the view of the town from St Giles Church Tower.
