Award Success For Coleg Cambria Chemistry Student

A Coleg Cambria A Level Chemistry student recently received ‘Yale Sixth Form Student of the Year 2017’ and the college’s ‘Special Award for Academic Excellence’ at Cambria’s Student Awards 2017.

Dhruv Bansal studied Chemistry, Maths, Further Maths and Physics in college and is going to study Engineering at Bath University in the Autumn.

During his time in the sixth form at Yale, Dhruv has attended the college’s Pennant Society to learn about career options and has joined university master classes to enjoy more challenging problem solving tasks. Dhruv felt that continuing with his study of Chemistry at A level helped him develop the practical, analytical and team skills he would need as an engineer.

Dhruv’s Science and Maths interest runs in the family as his brother Saksham studied Maths, Biology Physics and Chemistry A levels and is now a fourth year medical student at Birmingham University.

Saksham has returned to the college several times as an Alumnus and talked to current students about his college and university experience reflecting that his study of Maths and Science A level was essential for his vocation.

Likewise, A level Chemistry award winner Alex Quinn is heading for the University of York to study Chemistry in September but not before recommending his A level courses to his brother who will be following in his footsteps next year.

Alex has made his mark in Chemistry by joining in master classes, heats for the Young Analyst Competition, Royal Society of Chemistry Spectroscopy days and Easter and Whit revision classes at Cambria.

Nora Richardson, Deputy Director for Science, Maths and PE at Coleg Cambria said: “We are delighted and proud to see so many of our A level Chemistry students who have sat their final exams are heading to prestigious universities to use Chemistry practical and problem solving skills in their study of Medicine, Pharmacy, Chemistry, Maths and Engineering degrees.

“We also have students joining apprenticeship and teaching schemes.

“They have really made the most of opportunities offered through the subject to join competitions, do work and university placements, attend the Science Society and revision days offered on the Yale site”.
