Town To Honour Cup Winning Team
Wrexham.com has asked the Council if they are planning a rumoured open top bus parade for Wrexham FC, who lifted the FA Trophy at Wembley on Sunday.
The Mayor of Wrexham, Cllr Ian Roberts said:
“I’m absolutely delighted that Wrexham FC won the FA Trophy and I am sure the supporters will take away many happy memories from their day out at Wembley. The whole town receives a massive boost when the football club does well and I would like to congratulate everyone involved with the club on this success.
“With the club going strong in the league as well hopefully this will not be the only piece of silverware that comes Wrexham’s way this season. Wrexham Council is currently considering plans for a celebration event for the club and its supporters.”
Wrexhams MP Ian Lucas has also praised the town’s football team on their FA Trophy win.
Thousands of Wrexham fans – including Mr Lucas – made their way to Wembley yesterday to see the team beat Grimsby in a closely-fought match eventually won by Wrexham on penalties.
Mr Lucas has paid tribute to the team and its players – as well as its owners, Wrexham fans themselves.
He said: “Wrexham’s win was a truly great day and will go down in the club’s history.
“What made the day truly special for me was that Wrexham’s success was as a fan-owned club, thanks to the hard work of the Wrexham Supporters Trust – the fans organisation which runs the club.
“Wrexham have had some dark times in the past few years, but today’s win seems a just reward for the devotion which fans have shown. It demonstrates that fan-run clubs can succeed.”
