Twenty one years ago today Wrexham FC took on Arsenal in the FA Cup. Arsenal were second in what is now the Premiership, and lets just say Wrexham were not doing that well!

Arsenal were winning 1-0 with just minutes remaining when Michael Reginald Thomas, aka Mickey, stepped up to take a freekick just outside the Arsenal area. England goalkeeper David Seaman was in goal, and the defence contained giants such as Lee Dixon, Nigel Winterburn, Tony Adams and David O’Leary.

As they say, the rest is history!

Richard Knew, an avid Wrexham fan and a local professional film maker who’s firm recently celebrated their 15th birthday, has created a work of video art from the freekick. The free kick video has been slowed down frame by frame to stretch it to nearly three minutes with all the possible angles of the goal – plus a rousing soundtrack.

Here is the wonderful video he has created:

Rich has previously helped out getting ‘lost’ videos online – for example a Gresford Disaster historic record and one of the most popular a video tour around Wrexham from 1989!
