Yale College has been announced as the joint winner of the ColegauCymru International Award.

The college was revealed as the shared winner with Coleg Morgannwg at the British Council Wales’ International Awards Ceremony 2013.

The award which recognises achievements in enriching staff and learners’ skills and learning experiences through the development of international opportunities was announced last week in a ceremony held at the Metropole Hotel in Llandrindod Wells.

Yale College was highlighted for their clear focus on maximising reciprocal learning that can take place when working in partnership with counterparts in Europe as well as with African countries and with China.

Teaching & Learning Development Manager at Yale College, Carys Davies said: “This award is testament to the hard work dedication of our teachers who are committed to embedding global citizenship experiences wherever possible into teaching and learning.”

“This award will serve to inspire both our teachers  to carry on engaging in the rich learning experiences created by the international dimension. It will also serve to inspire others to have a go and develop wider perspectives into learning programmes and to get involved in international learning.”

Yale welcomes hundreds of international students to participate in short study visits, both vocational and academic, with the underlying ethos of integrating these students with the home students. This leads to a mutual exchange of learning, values and, most importantly, friendship.

Chief Executive of ColegauCymru / CollegesWales, John Graystone, said: “ColegauCymru, now a partner in the British Council Wales’ International Education Programme, is delighted that further education colleges have this year been included in the International Awards.

“Congratulations to Yale College and Coleg Morgannwg. Their experiences testify to the benefits of international engagement and demonstrate that international opportunities support learners’ and teachers’ personal and professional development.”
