Wrexham’s Brantano Store To Close Down
Regular shoppers in Wrexham may have noticed that the Brantano shoe store on Island Green looks set to close down.
The store, which has occupied one of the largest units on Island Green for several years currently has a 20% closing down sale, with local rumours that it will close in the next three weeks or so.
We popped down to Brantano this morning and the majority of the store had been closed off, with many of the shelves empty. Written on the window it states that there is just five days left of the sale (and presumably the store remaining open) left.
We have contacted Brantano Press Office regarding the closure twice, however have yet to receive a reply.
In March last year, Wrexham.com was passed information of rents for the property. The document, which can be viewed in full here notes: “The premises are held on a 25 year lease expiring 24th June 2024 subject to rent reviews every five years of the term. The current rent passing is £180,000 per annum.”
We contacted Brantano 12 months ago queering the document, however we were told that they were ‘unable to comment at this time’.
There have been various rumours in the town regarding what would replace Brantano when it closed, with many believing that Iceland would be relocating there. One Wrexham.com forum member posted on the forums last week to say that there had been reports that Iceland would try to offer ‘free parking’ for customers at Island Green.
We spoke to Iceland this morning asking if they had any plans to relocate to the Island Green unit and were told that they have no plans to move at the moment. We also asked if their town centre store would be remaining open and Iceland confirmed it would be.
There is an ongoing discussion on our forums regarding Brantano’s closure, which can be viewed here. What would you like to see replace Brantano?
