Wrexham Tourism Businesses Set To Benefit From Local Programme
Wrexham’s Tourism Businesses are set to benefit from a New Local Accreditation Programme.
Over the past few years, many certification schemes for the tourism industry have become available to tourism businesses throughout Wales. In turn, some of these schemes and awards have also disappeared, resulting in confusion and a decrease in services available to tourism businesses.
12-months ago, Wrexham County Borough Council launched its first Destination Management Plan – with the aim of bringing added value to the local economy via tourism and also to create a brilliant visitor experience. Since then, businesses such as the National Trust, Glyndwr, Coleg Cambria, Bellis Brothers, the Canal & River Trust, the Ramada, the Bridge End Inn, Willington Lodge, NWN Media and the Grove Guest House have come together and formed a Destination Partnership for Wrexham.
As a result of forming this Partnership, Tourism Partnership North Wales awarded the group £40,000 in May to support a number of local tourism related projects – one being the creation of a new local accreditation scheme for tourism businesses throughout Wrexham County Borough.
Joe Bickerton, Project Manager for the Wrexham Destination Partnership said: “This is a great opportunity for us to help support more local tourism businesses. Over the last 18-months, we have really listened to these businesses and also our visitors to see what we should prioritise to continue improving the visitor experience.
“Whilst there are benefits for a visitor attraction, hotel or bed & breakfast to register with a national or local trade body – this free accreditation scheme challenges businesses to maintain high standards, in return for many great benefits including enhanced marketing, business support and entry to the first Wrexham Tourism Awards next year.”
